MRS. OLUFUNSO AMOSUN, WIFE OF FORMER GOVERNOR,  OGUN STATE

Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun, president of the UPLIFT Development Foundation and Founder of the Green Education For The Youth (GEF initiative, is the wife of the Governor of Ogun State.

She obtained her first degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos. In the past, Olufunso worked briefly as part of a loss adjustment team in Barclay’s Financial Services and blew Prudential Insurance both in the United Kingdom in the 1990s, but her main preoccupation in recent years, has been philanthropic.

She has been an unshakable pillar of support to the Senator Ibikunle Amosun foundation; her husband’s scholarship foundation, since 2003, and has embarked on numerous programs for the less privileged and vulnerable in the society through her UPLIFT Development Foundation. She pays particular attention to the aged, physically challenged, women living with HIV, unemployed youths and orphaned/vulnerable children.

Olufunso is ver passionate about environmental issues, and has embarked upon a crusade to empower our youths by educating them on the essence of going green. She anchored an international green conference in collaboration with the Installations Classées pour la Protection de l’Environnement (ICPE), embarked on a I 0,000 youth tree planting exercise, initiated several environmental awareness walks and even went on to write a book for children on the topic.

In 20 l4, Mrs. Amosun organised the first ever National Green Essay Competition, which was open to all seconda school students in Nigeria based on her ‘Green Education For The Youth’ book.

In November 20 15, Mrs. Olufunso through her foundation sponsored twelve students from the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria who had emerged winners, to the United Kingdom, for a leadership and environmental workshop program. All these in a bid to get the future generation actively and voluntarily involved in the mission to save the environment from further degradation and to educate them about benefits of imbibing environmental sustainability practices.

In December 20 15, Mrs. Amosun climbed the famous Mount Kilimanjaro for the sole purpose of raising funds for the benefit of victims in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Nigeria.

Her work as the wife of the Governor of Ogun State has earned her many enviable awards nationally and internationally, especially for her sensitivity towards social issues demonstrated in her work in uplifting the lives of the vulnerable; and contributing relentlessly towards attaining the eight Millennium Development Goals initially set.

In March 20 16, Mrs. Amosun was conferred with an honoura Doctorate of Science degree in Environment Management for her immense contributions towards environmental sustainability during the third combined Convocation and I Oth Anniversa /Award ceremony of Novena University, Ogume in Delta State, Nigeria.

Mrs. Olufunso Amosun is happily married to Senator Ibikunle Amosun the Executive Governor of Ogun State and is a proud mother to five wonderful children.
